Personal Librarians at the University of Alberta

Each self-identified first-year Aboriginal student or a first-year international student at the University of Alberta will be matched with one of the Personal Librarians below. If you are not sure whether you have a Personal Librarian, or who your Personal Librarian is, please contact personal.librarian@ualberta.ca to find out.

Kara Blizzard
Public Services Librarian
Augustana Campus Library
(780) 679-1554
kara.blizzard@ualberta.ca

I am an Augustana graduate who couldn't get enough of university, so I came back to work here! When I'm not on campus I like to bake, listen to music, and visit my family.

Sarah Shaughnessy
Public Services Librarian
Bibliothèque Saint-Jean
(780) 465-8612

Allison Sivak
Public Services Librarian
Education Library
(780) 492-1469
allison.sivak@ualberta.ca

I just finished a graduate degree, so I understand some of the things that are difficult about being a student. I'm glad to help you learn to use our library! I love to ride my bike, listen to live music, and listen to stories.

Linda Slater
Public Services Manager
John W. Scott Health Sciences Library
(780) 492-7948
linda.slater@ualberta.ca

Linda Slater has been with the U of Alberta Libraries for 25 years. She is the Public Service Manager for the John W. Scott Health Sciences Library and is library liaison to the Faculty of Nursing. In her spare time she likes to listen to music and attempts to keep fit with spin classes and kettlebell workouts. She is a member of A Joyful Noise - a choir for those who don't think they can sing (but who find out they really can) and plays guitar in Les Rigodons, a French Canadian folk group.

David Sulz
Public Services Librarian
Rutherford HSS Library (Humanities and Social Sciences)
(780) 248-1856
david.sulz@ualberta.ca

As a librarian, I work with the departments of Religious Studies, Economics, East Asian Studies, and Social Work. I also love working with various other groups such as USchool classes, UA International's GALD programme, and high-school IB and AP classes. Interacting with international library users is one of my favourite things - partly to pay forward all the help I've received while living or travelling in various countries. In my spare time, I like physical activity (hockey, squash, biking), music (esp. guitar), and manual hobbies like wood working, gardening, and home improvements.

Jessica Thorlakson
Science and Technology Cameron Library
(780) 492-5493
jessica.thorlakson@ualberta.ca

I’m a Public Services Librarian for ALES (Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences). I like learning about science and technology, but my educational background is in English Literature and Classics. I love cats, books, and riding my bike. I enjoy being physically active and being outside, but also eating snacks and watching movies at home on my couch.
